Business Objects Query and Analysis - Web Intelligence
Web Intelligence Overview
With Business Objects Web Intelligence, both self-service access to data and intuitive information analysis are available in one product, helping your users turn business insights into effective decisions. With a few mouse clicks, users create a query from scratch, format the retrieved information, and easily analyze it to understand underlying trends and root causes.
And if they don't require the full power of query capabilities, users can simply explore information in existing reports—formatting and interacting with data to meet specific needs.
Business Objects Universes for JD Edwards
Web Intelligence is extremely powerful, but in order to work effectively, you must properly define Universes (Business Objects metadata layer) as they are required as the source for all adhoc reports you create. Within the universe you will identify data tables, join them together, and create formula fields. Defining applicable universes is very time consuming, but a critical step to ensure your business users can understand and use them. Once your Universes are properly defined, Web Intelligence is very easy to learn and will deliver immediate results to your end users.
Due to the complexity of the JD Edwards ERP data model, developing Universes against JD Edwards can be complicated, and is seldom acheived by people outside IT. The information stored inside JD Edwards is dispersed across thousands of database tables in order support the information and functionality of the various modules of your ERP. If you are not familiar with JD Edwards tables and relationships between tables it will be difficult to determine where the information you require in your Universe resides within your JD Edwards database. To accelerate and simplify this process, Preferred Strategies provides JD Edwards customers with the BI Quick Launch, a suite of Universes tailored for the JD Edwards data model. The BI Quick Launch for JD Edwards Universes identify the data tables used by ERP module and the relationships between tables are already defined for you.
